evaluation of some iranian wheat landraces resistance against stem rust disease at seedling stage in the green house

چکیده
wheat is the most important crop of iran and black or stem rust disease is one of the most severe diseases threatning the wheat production. in order to identify new resistant sources against the new race of stem rust virulent on plant with sr 31gene, the selected iranian landraces accessions of national plant gene bank of iran wheat collection were evaluated. the most virulent isolate of puccinia graminis f.sp. tritici (pgt) that was from dasht-azadegan was used. isolate purity was tested by propagation of single pustule on seven days seedling of boulani susceptible cultivar in the green house. pathotype identification was carried out by 45 differential lines of wheat stem rust received from icarda. the pathotype used was pathogenic against sr31, sr36, sr38 and sr13 but it was not pathogenic against sr24. during this study, 62 iranian landrace accessions were evaluated for resistance against pgt at seedling stage in the greenhouse. seven days seedlings were inoculated by spore suspension. 14 days after inoculation based on stackman et al. method, infection type was recorded. according to the results, the landrace accessions were divided into susceptible and resistant groups. the resistant group included 39 landrace accessions. complementary analysis for identification of resistance genes by molecular markers is in progress.

in the present study resistance of some elite lines of wheat at seedling stage were evaluated in cereal rusts greenhouse at seed and plant improvement institute in karaj and at adult plant stage in ahvaz under artificial inoculation with an isolate of leaf rust from ahvaz. for seedling resistance, different components of resistance were measured. the results showed that lines m-85-1, m-86-1 and...
متن کاملScreening some Iranian Muskmelon Landraces for Resistance Against Fusarium Wilt Disease using Molecular Markers
Fusarium wilt is one of the most destructive diseases of muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.), which is an economically important disease worldwide causes yield losses in muskmelon growing areas. One of the most effective controlling measures to prevent Fusarium wilt is through host resistance by using resistance genes. We used developed molecular markers for Fom-2 gene, which confers ...

Stem rust (caused by Puccinia graminis Pers.:Pers. f. sp. tritici Eriks. & E. Henn.), a devastating disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), was effectively controlled worldwide for the past 50 yr by deployment of stem rust resistance (Sr) genes in wheat cultivars. However, a new stem rust race, TTKSK (known as Ug99 or TTKS) that emerged in eastern Africa, is a cause of concern because it has b...
متن کاملevaluation of drought resistance in some iranian landraces of durum wheat (triticum turgidum)
drought stress is considered as the most important environmental abiotic stress, affecting grain yield of crop plants especially in arid and semi arid regions. increasing and utilization of the genetic diversity can be a useful strategy in breeding for drought resistance. in this study, twenty iranian durum wheat landraces along with two check cultivars were evaluated in a randomized complete b...

Stem rust is one of the most potentially harmful wheat diseases, but has been effectively controlled in China since 1970s. However, the interest in breeding wheat with durable resistance to stem rust has been renewed with the emergence of Ug99 (TTKSK) virulent to the widely used resistance gene Sr31, and by which the wheat stem rust was controlled for 40 years in wheat production area worldwide...
متن کاملThe Lr34 adult plant rust resistance gene provides seedling resistance in durum wheat without senescence
The hexaploid wheat (Triticum aestivum) adult plant resistance gene, Lr34/Yr18/Sr57/Pm38/Ltn1, provides broad-spectrum resistance to wheat leaf rust (Lr34), stripe rust (Yr18), stem rust (Sr57) and powdery mildew (Pm38) pathogens, and has remained effective in wheat crops for many decades. The partial resistance provided by this gene is only apparent in adult plants and not effective in field-g...
